THE DEAL WITH CANDLE REFILLS.
Share
You could just buy a new candle every time your old one burns out, but that’s a waste of a perfectly good jar!
If you burn a lot of candles, it may be hard to find new uses for old jars and if you throw out every old candle jar that’s a lot of wasted glass. Recycling is a great option but can be confusing, difficult, and you'll still need a new candle.
That's where candle refills come into play. Besides refilling a candle is kind of fun, super easy, and saves you money.
Why should I refill my candle?
Here are a few reasons you should refill your old candle jar:
- Reduce waste
- Save money
- Scent Customization
- Fun DIY project
What is a candle refill?
A candle refill is either scented wax and a centered wick fitted for a specific jar size and meant to be placed into the old jar once cleaned. Alternatively, it can come in the form of a candle refilling kit. The candle refill kit will include all the necessary items to refill your jar such as, wax, a wick, & fragrance oils (optional if wax is unscented).
In order to use a plug-in candle refill you'll need to have a refillable candle as the refill is sized to fit perfectly inside. Unfortunately, most candles companies do not offer plug in candle refills, hopefully as this sustainable tread continues to grow more companies will take the step to help reduce waste.
In this instance you will need a candle refilling kit, or get all the required materials separately.
How do I use a "plug-in" candle refill?
It’s easy! After the burn, the easiest and safest way to remove the remaining wax, is to put your candle in the freezer overnight, or at least for a few hours. This will cause the wax to shrink up and you should be able to use some type of kitchen utensil to knock it loose.
Extremely thin areas might need to be scraped with said kitchen utensil. Rub any kind of cooking oil on the inside of the jar to remove the waxy residue, then just wash with soap and water as usual. Any leftover wax is perfect for wax warmers.
Then, just drop your candle refill in your old jar and you're ready to burn!
Your first burn will allow the beeswax candle refill to seal itself to the jar and it’ll be indistinguishable from the last one!
The easy little project is a sustainable and eco-friendly candle habit that’ll also save you money and let you enjoy more of the same candle you love.
Just be sure to watch your candle as it nears the bottom as the sustainer will no longer be secured to the jar. It’s always best to blow out your candle before the wick reaches the metal sustainer.
