• Phthalate-free symbol with chemical structure diagram. Non-Toxic Candles.

    clean & non-toxic

the cheap paraffin and gross fragrance oil market is full so we decided to make candles with locally harvested beeswax, organic coconut oil, and pthalate-free fragrances instead

  • Logo of a bee with 'Locally Harvested Beeswax' text inside a circular border. All of our raw beeswax is locally & sustainably sourced.

    ingredients matter

paraffin wax is derived from crude oil, coal, or sale (which we think is gross). our beeswax is harvested from local michigan orchards. sometimes cheap really is bad.

  • Logo with silhouette of Michigan and 'Handmade in Michigan' text. All of Hive To Home Candle Co's products are handmade in Michigan.

    michigan made

we support local michigan beekeepers and farmers instead of the fossil fuel industry. along with thousands of bees that pollinate our food and flowers.

  • Logo with a tree illustration and text 'One tree planted for every candle' inside a circular border. Trees planted through the Arbor Day Foundation.

    sustainability

we are firm believers that not every product needs to destroy the environment. it might save money now but it will cost us in the future.

we are the candle experts

we are artisans, designers, & scentologists more importantly we are people. people who care about real issues, like lack of affordable housing and climate change. who want basic things like universal healthcare, walkable cities, and a real public transit network.

we also like to make good candles with non-tosic ingredients that smell amazing.

who am i?

I'm riley, it's nice to meet you! I own H2H and might've burnt more candles than anyone of all time to try and create the best candle possible. while others cheap out (and still sell for the same amount), we decided to make our candles with better ingredients; like beeswax instead of soy (cheap), non-toxic fragrance oils, and clean cotton wicks. we don't use cheap poison or metal-core wicks because not everything needs to suck or have an inflated price. growing up in a Michigan working class family, I love 2 things: the working class and our beautiful environment, both of which will always be at the forefront of our company.

So, why candles?

I got into candles on accident, taking an idea my mom and aunt had previously began to work on for fun and as a side hustle (before it fizzled out). while in college, Covid began disrupting our lives. then, having far more free time than money, I talked my mom into giving candles another shot- on one condition. We decided I would do the boring business stuff and she gets to focus on the fun: mixing scents and pouring candles. we pooled our "extra" money, mine from delivering pizzas and hers from running a daycare from home. we thought, "what's worst case we go broke?" (we were already broke).

the problem was: our pool was small. after buying small melters and supplies, it was gone. we began by going to craft shows, starting this website, and reaching out to boutiques. we were using the money from one order to buy supplies for the next, all while supply chains were out of whack and prevalent shortages made it a gamble every time.

candles > everything

at this point, candles have been my constant. through wondering if I can afford my last semester of college, through housing insecurity, I never stopped pouring candles. i never stopped when i was building an entire building with my hands (and plenty of help) to replace the candle shop that was unfortunately sold with my family home. i poured candles while the township (boo) held the permits until the money ran dry, forcing me to sell and find yet another space to make candles.

candles are near and dear to my heart, a comfort, part of my story. I can''t stop the craziness of the world but I can control the impact our candles have on the environment & community. that's why we are happy to partner with women's rights organizations like Mayday Health and plant trees for every candle.

People over profits, today, tomorrow, & forever.
